What is a Virtual Doula?

A Virtual Doula is a way to access a lot of the great benefits of having a Doula, without working with them in person.

​

A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional and physical support to birthing parents during pregnancy childbirth and the postpartum period.

 

We are not medical professionals and do not provide medical care; we offer information and advocacy to help pregnant people navigate the healthcare system, make informed decisions about their care, and understand their options throughout pregnancy. 

​

Its perfect if you want to work with a Doula outside of your area, if you don't have the time to meet in person, if you don't want in-person birth support, or if you simply prefer digital communication!

  • Exclusive access to my virtual resource recommendations including evidence-based pregnancy and birth podcasts, blogs and books.

  • You can ask me anything regarding pregnancy, preparing for birth, and birth itself. I will respond with answers and point you toward appropriate research/evidence.

  • I will keep in touch before and after hospital or midwife appointments, suggest birth preparation activities for you and your birth partner, and suggest discussion topics.

  • You will get access to all my birth and postpartum planning templates

 
The essentials package is an investment of £150
If you book at 12 weeks that could cost you a little as £5.30 a week for all this support!

 

  • Once signed up you can message me at any time and I will reply within 4 hours from 9-5 and as soon as reasonably possible outside those hours. (If you are in Labour I will do my best to respond immediately!)

  • A 30 minute get to know you call.

  • Exclusive access to my virtual resource recommendations including evidence-based pregnancy and birth podcasts, blogs and books.

  • You will get access to all my birth and postpartum planning templates including:​

  • I will go 'on-call' for you from 37 weeks until you give birth. When you are in labor you or your birth partner can contact me by phone, video call, message, or voice note and I will answer immediately.

  • Whats App support until 2 weeks postpartum ​

Birth Companion Package
£300

  • Additional calls (calls or video) can be added to any package for £20 an hour. These can be used for previous birth debriefs, to discuss a specific situation, or as a catch-up!

  • Additional post-partum support can be added at £10 per week.

  • The 'on-call' option can be added to the other packages for an additional £100

Does a Virtual Doula have the same benefits as an in-person one?

A Virtual doula cannot provide physical support during pregnancy and birth, but if it is emotional support you require virtual support can work just as well!

A recent study on Virtual Doula support in the US showed that:

​

  •  Members with a prior C-section saw a reduced risk of C-section after one meeting with a doula. Other members experienced a reduced risk of C-section after two or more doula appointments. 

 

  • Those who met with a doula two times or more reduced the odds of C-section by nearly 20% for all members. For those who met with a doula two or more times and have had a prior C-section, the impact was even greater: more than 60% of these members saw reduced odds of C-section. 

  • The positive effects of doula care are also reflected among Black users specifically.  Black members who met with a doula at least twice had nearly 60% decreased odds of C-section, compared to Black members who did not meet with a doula. 

  • Meeting with a doula increased the likelihood of reporting a better birth experience.

    Better birth experience was based on the following factors:

  • Feeling like they had support in deciding on a delivery preference

  • Learning medically accurate information

  • Feeling like they received a high level of emotional support

  • Better managing their mental health
